To produce Brown Fused Alumina (BFA), extremely good quality bauxites are being passed under the reduction fusion process in electric arc furnaces. It is a very hard and tough material. It is used in so many different applications depending on its type.

Types of Brown Fused Alumina used for Bonded & Industrial Abrasives

BTUS

BTUS is a brown aluminum oxide produced from the reduction of high quality bauxite in an electric arc furnace. BTUS is very tough and so it is mainly used in grinding wheels, cutoff wheels, points, coated abrasives (paper & cloth), blasting abrasives, as well as refractory applications. The aluminum oxide content in it is 95.62%, titanium oxide is  2.84%, silicon oxide is 0.78%, ferric oxide is 0.20%, magnesium oxide is 0.33% and  clacium oxide is 0.11.

BT – R

BT is a brown fused aluminum oxide produced by a reduction fusion of high quality bauxites in electric arc furnaces. BT – R is very tough and so it is mainly used for high performance grinding wheels. The aluminum oxide content in it is 95.69%, titanium oxide is  2.66%, silicon oxide is 0.83%, ferric oxide is 0.28% and Magnesium oxide is 0.29%.

BTCAL

BTCAL is a brown aluminum oxide produced by a reduction fusion of high quality bauxites in electric arc furnaces. BTCAL is used mainly for high performance grinding wheels. Heat and magnetic treatment procedures gives low iron content. It also makes it extremely tough. BTCAL is heat treated in a rotary kiln at high temperatures and  then it is magnetic treated. The aluminum oxide content in it is 95.69%, titanium oxide is  2.66%, silicon oxide is 0.83%, ferric oxide is 0.28% and Magnesium oxide is 0.29%.

ALOMAX – R (Semi-Friable BFA)

ALOMAX is made from the fusion of high purity bauxites in electric arc furnace. It is used for high performance coated abrasives. ALOMAX is tough and has excellent abrasion properties. The aluminum oxide content in it is 97.74%, titanium oxide is  1.29%, silicon oxide is 0.51%, ferric oxide is 0.13% and magnesium oxide is 0.05%.

MAXCAL – R (Low Titania BFA)

MAXCAL is a special brown fused aluminum oxide produced for high performance abrasive products. MAXCAL is low titania content product, heat treated in a rotary kiln at high temperatures and magnetic treated. These procedures guarantee low iron content and excellent grit stability. The aluminum oxide content in it is 97.74%, titanium oxide is  1.29%, silicon oxide is 0.51%, ferric oxide is 0.13% and magnesium oxide is 0.05%.

SFAR – R (Semi-Friable BFA)

SFAR is a semi-friable brown fused aluminum oxide produced from the fusion of high purity bauxites in electric arc furnaces. In order to enhance its quality it is calcined and presents low dust content. It is recommended for high performance bonded abrasives. The aluminum oxide content in it is 97.64%, titanium oxide is  1.43%, silicon oxide is 0.53% and ferric oxide is 0.12%.

SFARBF – R (Semi-Friable BFA)

SFARBF is a semi-friable brown fused aluminum oxide obtained from the fusion of high purity bauxites in electric arc furnaces. SFARBF is heat treated in high temperatures and these procedures guarantee stress relief and high toughness. SFARBF is recommended for high performance grinding wheels. The aluminum oxide content in it is 97.40%, titanium oxide is  1.68%, silicon oxide is 0.54% and ferric oxide is 0.11%.

TB – R (Friable BFA)

TB is a friable brown fused aluminum oxide obtained from the fusion of high purity bauxites in electric arc furnaces. TB presents an excellent cost/benefit relation, being recommended for resin-bonded abrasives. The aluminum oxide content in it is 96.30%, titanium oxide is  1.63%, silicon oxide is 0.94%, ferric oxide is 0.77% and magnesium oxide is 0.12%.
